The Vendée is also culturally rich, with many tourist sites offering a variety of activities: history, heritage, animals, gastronomy, crafts and know-how, you can’t get bored!

Take advantage of the Funbus service in the seaside resort of La Tranche sur Mer to go to the beach or to town during the summer season!

  • Just an hour and 15 minutes away by car, the Puy du Fou is a highly reputed historical theme park, offering grandiose shows featuring different periods of French history.
  • La Rochelle is a historic port town about an hour’s drive north of La Tranche-sur-Mer.
  • La Vélodyssée is a cycle route that crosses the entire French Atlantic coast, from Brittany to the Basque Country, covering a total distance of around 1,200 kilometres. Although La Tranche-sur-Mer is not directly on the main route of La Vélodyssée, it is on the Vendée coast, and you can reach the cycle path by following the signposted routes along the coast or by taking secondary roads.

Start your exploration in the Vieux Port, the beating heart of the city for centuries. Stroll along the quays lined with quaint cafés and seafood restaurants, and soak up the lively atmosphere of the sailors and fishermen.

Don’t miss the impressive Tours de La Rochelle, the Tour Saint-Nicolas and the Tour de la Chaîne, which stand proudly at the entrance to the port. Climb to their summits for breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the ocean.

Immerse yourself in La Rochelle’s history as you stroll through the Old Quarter, where cobbled streets lead you through a maze of half-timbered houses, craft shops and charming shady squares.
